About Us

St John’s Malone is an Anglican parish of the Diocese of Connor, Church of Ireland in South Belfast which aspires to be an open, welcoming and friendly church to all. The Church of Ireland is part of the Anglican Communion of churches and a member of the Porvoo Communion of churches. St John’s observes a strong sung Eucharistic tradition with the service of Holy Communion /the Eucharist set at the heart of its worship.

On the first Sunday of the month we have a junior music group which plays at the 10:30am service called ‘Sunday First’. This is our Family Service at which there is an All Age address.

As we have a strong choral tradition our services are more often sung. Choral Evensong is sung once a month on the fourth Sunday at 6.30pm. This is a special service using the traditional words from the Prayer Book along with Anglican choral music and is one of the gems of Anglican liturgy.

A service of Compline (page 154 BCP 2004 traditional language) is held at 7.30pm on a Wednesday evening. This service is usually on Zoom and the link for it is in the regular Email Update. During Lent the service transfers to the church building and is livestreamed on St John’s Malone YouTube channel.

The Prayer Book service of Holy Communion is used on a Thursday at 10.30am with intercession for the sick.

The parish provides pastoral care through the Rector. We visit at home and when parishioners are having a stay in hospital or in convalescent or nursing care providing pastoral support to those who need it.
